DYNAMIC WEIGHT:
Before ordering, it is a good idea to check the dynamic roof weight of your car.
You can look it up at www.car.info or in the car's manual.
This weight is the maximum weight of the car on the roof while driving.
Only the dynamic weight limit is stated by car and roof rack manufacturers.
The tent you want to mount on your car should keep its dead weight within this dynamic weight limit.
Our roof tents fit most cars.
See dead weight on our roof tents on the product page.
STATIC WEIGHT:
When the car stops, it's a different matter.
Here, the weight has become static, and car and roof racks can hold an incredible amount of weight. So you can easily fit three or four people in the roof tent, problem free.
You can not find the static weight online. This is not stated by car manufacturers as cars are not made to hold still.
Max load weight in our roof tent when they are pitched and the car is stationary is 400kg
Yes, the roof of your car is extremely durable so there should be no problems with the weight - as long as the car is not in movement and the rooftop tent and roof racks fit your car and are fitted correctly. When the car is parked, the car's static weight limit, which is much higher than the dynamic weight limits, applies.
The maximum load weight in our roof tents is 400 kilos, which should allow plenty of space for the whole family, sleeping bags and gear.
There are various groups on Facebook that cater to rooftop tent enthusiasts. Among others is Moby Mountain Friends, as well as many different mobile apps where people share spots for overnight stays. Always check the applicable rules in the country you are staying in, before staying overnight. It is your responsibility to choose where to stay and Moby Mountain advice is for guidance only.
No, the universal mounting system fits most roof racks and can be easily mounted in less than 15 minutes.
You can both use roof bars that are square or have a wing profile, as our brackets can be mounted on both types.
If you want to mount the roof tent on roof bars, which does not offer much clearance between the tent's bracket and the car's roof, and can therefore lower itself too close to the car's roof when the tent is under load, Moby Mountain offers various low-profile mounting solutions, which can be purchased separately.
If you have a large 4x4 with a fixed roof rack, it may require our special low-profile bracket.
You only need two roof racks, as our roof tents have a self-supporting base with two aluminum rails to equalize the pressure.
Most roof racks can load around 100 kilos.
However, always check the dynamic weight limit of your roof racks before installing a rooftop tent.
Roof bars are not included when you purchase a rooftop tent. They can be purchased on the side. We recommend that you look up your number plate online and see which roof racks best fits your car.
The included mounting brackets can be mounted on both narrow square roof hangers as well as on wide wing-shaped roof hangers. The mounting brackets can be slid back and forth as desired in the bottom aluminum rails to match the location of your roof racks on the roof.
The distance between the roof rails is recommended to stay within:
Peak XL: 60-120 cm
Peak XXL: 60-150 cm
Our new models have been upgraded in many ways:
- The rooftop tents have been given a new self-supporting base without a steel frame. The new base consists of a polished aluminum panel sandwich with 23 mm. insulating honeycomb panels
- The zippers have been upgraded to quality zippers from SBS, which is the world's second largest supplier of zippers.
- The mosquito nets have been upgraded from 570 holes per inch to a close-mesh net of 900 holes per inch.
- The hardshell box has been given a stronger shape and improved interior cladding.
- The built-in mattresses are softer and of higher quality both in foam and mattress cover, which can be zipped off and washed.
- Bigger and better shoe bag with velcro closure.
- As well as other small tweaks and improvements.
Our roof tents are resistant to both rain and wind. We have even tested them in extreme conditions with strong winds and rain in stride currents - and they did managed the extreme weather just fine.
However, this presupposes that the roof tent is set up correctly in accordance to our instructions. In case of wind and rain, put an overhang over the windows and mount storm protection on the ladder down to your car wheel or down to a storm peg. You can also advantageously park with your hardshell up against the wind.
If you need to fold the roof tent together while it is still wet, we recommend you to first wipe the water off the tent fabric and close all openings. When you get home or to your next location, set up the tent so it can dry.
The tents are impregnated when purchased, so the need for additional impregnation will only arise after a while.
The first time the tent gets wet, all seams will expand and thus become tight. In addition, all seams are sealed from the inside.
It literally takes less than a minute to pop up your rooftop tent.
Packing the roof tent takes about 1.5 minutes, as the tent fabric at the ends just has to be pushed into the roof tent when closing.
The awning is set up in a few minutes, and with our annex you should expect about 10 minutes of set-up time.
The powerful built-in telescopic ladder does.
Because of this, it is very important that you use the ladder correctly, according to our installation and user instructions that you find here.
Yes, there is room for a few sleeping bags or similar at the back of the rooftop tent. However, space is limited, but try and see how much you can fit!
Just remember that the equipment must be at the back of the roof tent and not flat over the entire mattress.
Our 40mm soft mattress with high density is included in the tent.
However, we always recommend that you buy an anti-condensation mat that will provide better sleeping comfort and counteracts condensation under the mattress. See our anti-condensation mat here
If you have a bad back or just need an extra good mattress, it is also possible to use a self-inflating mattress.
Yes, for all openings, there is a tightly meshed mosquito net and fixed tent fabric. This ensures you a better chance of keeping bugs and insects out of your sleeping area!
In all models after 2020, our mosquito net has been upgraded to a dense-mesh mosquito net with 900 holes per inch.
Yes, you will find storage pockets both inside under the windows as well as outside, where the pockets are perfect for e.g., shoes or sandals.
You can also purchase extra storage pockets to mount inside the roof tent. See under our accessories.
It's easy and simple. Simply zip the awning or annex on the rain fly of the roof tent. Then set up telescopic poles and ropes and finish mounting pegs.
You can read more in our installation and user manual here.
As prescribed in the Danish Purchase Act, there is of course a 2-year warranty on the product.
In addition, we have most spare parts in stock.
The tent fabric can be zipped off the hardshell construction and sent for repair to a seal maker if you should ever need it.
We want the happiest customers, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have an inquiry or a broken part. We are happy to help you!
